The transparency task force will hold a public meeting June 24 in Washington, D.C., and another in the fall, Sharfstein said.
In the Federal Registry notice about the meeting, the FDA listed questions that it is specifically interested in pursuing,
including:

•What should the FDA reveal about enforcement actions, product approvals and recalls?
•What tools should the agency use to provide more usefulEsse

Apple changes mind on rejected e-book reader app
Apple has had a change of heart and decided to allow an iPhone app that offered access to the Kama Sutra.
Apple on Thursday notified the developer that it had rejected the e-book reader app because it deemed the content available
on Eucalyptus as "objectionable." As it does with all books nike shox
r3available through the app, Eucalyptus downloads a text-only version of the ancient Indian book on sexuality from
Project Gutenberg
The Kama Sutra does not come installed on the app; as with any book title, users must search for the book and download it.
The baffling thing in this case is that the book is available on the iPhone using other e-book readers available on the App
Store.
Then early Sunday, Apple changed its position and accepted the app after discussions with Eucalyptus developer James
Montgomerie, the developer wrote on his blog:
Earlier today I received a phone call from an Apple representative. He was very complimentary about Eucalyptus. We talked
about the confusion surrounding its App Store rejections, which I am happy to say is now fully resolved. He invited me to re
-build and submit a version of Eucalyptus with no filters for Nike Jordanimmediate
approval, and that full version is now available on the iPhone App Store.
When the App Store was announced in March 2008, Apple said it would vet every single application submitted to the App Store
and approve or reject applications based on its internal standards. However, Apple has a mixed record on apps that win
approval.
Last month, the App Store approved an application called Baby Shaker, the object of which was to stop the incessant crying of
an infant pictured on screen by violently shaking the iPhone, at which point two red "x" marks appear over the baby's eyes.
After a wave of protest, Apple removed the app.

Battle begins to establish UN Sri Lankan war crimes investigation
Western nations face an uphill battle to establish any investigation of war crimes in Sri Lanka. The UN Human Rights Council has agreed to hold a special session in Geneva next week on alleged war crimes by Tamil rebels and Sri Lankan government forces, but European diplomats are struggling to muster Esse cigarettessupport for a strong statement at the end of the meeting.
European Union nations have so far secured the backing of only 17 countries on the 47-member council for a text calling for investigations of atrocities.

New flu strain spreads to Turkey and India

ISTANBUL (Reuters) - Turkey and India confirmed their first cases of H1N1 flu on Saturday, all involving air passengers
arriving from the United States.
Thirty-eight countries have now confirmed cases of the new flu strain, a mix of swine, human and avian viruses, which last
month prompted the World Heath Organization to raise its

The western Japanese city of Kobe said it would close some public schools for a week after eight people were confirmed as
being infected with the new H1N1 influenza, commonly known as swine flu.

not been overseas. The other five were from another school, Kyodo news agency said.
The WHO, whose data lags national tallies, had earlier put the number of confirmed worldwide cases at 8,451, with 72 deaths.
The vast majority of deaths -- 66 -- have been in Mexico, where the outbreak started. The United States has reported four,
and Canada and Costa Rica one each.

Turkey identified its first two cases in a married couple traveling to Iraq from the United States, health officials and
local media said.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is considering a list of more than six contenders for the Supreme Court that is dominated by women and Hispanics, one that includes judges and leaders from own his administration who have never donned a judicial robe.
Among those under consideration are Solicitor General Elena Kagan, Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and U.S. Appeals Court judges Sonia Salem cigarettesSotomayor and Diane Pamela Wood. California Supreme Court Justice Carlos Moreno is also under review by Obama.
Sources familiar with Obama's deliberations confirmed the names to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because no candidates have been revealed by the White House. The confirmation amounts to the first time any name has been directly tied to Obama.
One official cautioned that Obama is considering other people who have not been publicly mentioned. And more names may be added as the administration considers a replacement for retiring Justice David Souter.
The disclosure came as the president met privately at the White House with four leading senators likely to play a key role in confirmation proceedings. Separately, top aides invited the leaders of several liberal-leaning outside groups to a meeting.
Most of the people confirmed as under consideration have been cheap cigarettesmentioned frequently as potential candidates. Moreno — the sole man on the known group of candidates — is the newest name to emerge.
The president is widely expected to choose a woman for a Supreme Court that has nine members but only one female justice, Ruth Bader Ginsburg. He is also under pressure from some Latino officials to name the nation's first Hispanic justice. Moreno and Sotomayor are Hispanic.
Obama is likely before month's end to name a nominee to replace Souter, who is retiring when the court term ends this summer. He is part of the court's liberal wing, and his replacement by the new Democratic president is not expected to change the high court's ideological balance.
Obama met Wednesday with senators who will have huge influence over the pace and tone of the confirmation process.
"I don't envy him the decision, but I think he's going to makeair jordan XIX it soon," Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., said after the private White House session.
Obama met with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev.; Sen. Jeff Sessions of Alabama, the top Republican on Judiciary; Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell; and Leahy. Vice President Joe Biden, a former Judiciary Committee chairman and veteran of confirmation hearings, also attended.
The Republican senators underscored that they would not seek a rushed confirmation process, noting that it typically takes 60 days for confirmation once a nominee has been announced. Pressed on a timetable, Leahy told reporters: "We'll work out a decent schedule. Let's get the nominee first."
Obama wants his nominee confirmed before the Senate recess in August, which means he would need to name one soon.
"I think he's still in the initial evaluation process," Sessions told reporters later in the day. "That's pretty clear, I think. He's not settled on one name."
The senators who met with Obama said he did not discuss specific names with them.
Moreno was nominated by President Bill Clinton in 1998 to serve as a U.S. District Court judge and the Senate unanimously confirmed him. In 2001 he raised a few eyebrows when he gavenike jordan melo 1.5 up his lifetime federal judgeship to accept Democratic Gov. Gray Davis' nomination to the state's high court.
Moreno is the only Democrat on the California Supreme Court and is widely regarded as its most liberal voice. Last year he signed on to the court's 4-3 ruling that legalized gay marriage in the state. Voters later banned gay marriage in a ballot initiative.

_Granholm, a former federal prosecutor and Michigan attorney general. She has been a fierce spokeswoman for her state's struggling auto industry and was a strong advocate for Obama during his presidential campaign.
_Napolitano, who stepped down as Arizona's governor to join the administration and was quickly tested as homeland security chief when the swine flu outbreak hit.
_Wood, an appeals court judge who has worked at the State Department, the Justice Department and in private practice. Like Obama, she is a former professor at the University of Chicago.
_Kagan, who stepped down as dean of Harvard Law School to become the nation's first female solicitor general. Like Obama, she is a graduate of Harvard who later taught of the University ofRussian Style cigarettes Chicago law school. She clerked for Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall and worked in the Clinton White House.
_Sotomayor, an appeals court judge and former New York prosecutor and private lawyer. President George H.W. Bush nominated her as a federal judge; Clinton nominated her to the appeals court.

'Star Trek': What did YOU think?
So, I'm assuming you've seen it by now, right? Otherwise, what kind of geek would you be? (The kind of geek that gets their credentials revoked.) J.J. Abrams' reboot is well on its way to making a cargo hold full of cash in its opening weekend, and it has been leaving critics giddy with praise -- includingNike Men Air Force 1 High our own Owen Gleiberman, who gave Star Trek an A-. I'm gonna give some SPOILER-LADEN thoughts of my own after the jump.
Me, I thought it was good. Very good, even. But not great. For me, it was missing a real sense of jeopardy -- the feeling that, just maybe, not everyone would've made it out alive. But you sort of knew that the Enterprise's bridge crew would survive their maiden voyage intact, so you never thought that Kirk or Spock or even Sulu was in any real danger. (Though we did get a handy red-shirt to take one for the team.) In that regard, I'm really surprised that Capt. Pike survived: He seemed ready-made for the mentor-who-dies-so-the-hero-can-move-oncheap cigarettes role (see: Obi-Wan Kenobi). But if the filmmakers had any huevos, they'd have killed off Old Spock. Why have two Spocks roaming around the cosmos, when the elder's death would've added such a sense of loss, of permanence? After all, Spock died in the best Trek movie ever...you don't mess with what works.
But it was not Starfleet Babies. And for that, I'm eternally grateful. What did you think? Over the moon, pleased as punch, or aghast at the heretical liberties taken?

Calif. wildfire imperils Santa Barbara; Homes lost
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (AP) — Paradise is not lost, but it's in flames — again. The seasonal wildfires that menace this idyllic coastal city roared to life earlier than usual but with all-too-familiar ferocity, burning mansions to their foundations and forcing more than 13,000 to flee. Dozens of homes were destroyed, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said.
"I knew it was time to leave," said Tom Morse, 62, a day after he dusted off his motorhome as the fire neared his Mission Canyon Heights house. "I could see the flames getting close."
The fire was just the latest to ravage the area known as West cigarettesthe American Riviera, home to screen stars, former presidents and Oprah Winfrey. The blaze reached the burn area of another wildfire that just six months ago destroyed about 200 homes in Santa Barbara and Montecito.
The latest 1,300-acre fire remained out of control and firefighters were on alert for a predicted return of a "sundowner" — fierce winds that sweep down late in the day from the Santa Ynez Mountains towering close behind Santa Barbara.
A sundowner on Wednesday afternoon turned a slumbering brush fire on rugged slopes above the city into a towering wildfire that hurled flames into homes and spit embers into more distant neighborhoods.
Some 5,400 homes were evacuated, and another 13,000 people were advised to be ready to leave.
"It started firestorming dramatically," said Gregg Patronyk, a lifelong Santa Barbara resident who grabbed a hose and started wetting his roof when he saw other houses ablaze. "The fire got within 200 to 300 feet of my house.
"There was a lot of pressure to leave," he said. "Police wanted me out and I got a frantic call from my sister, who was walking up the hill to get me. So I packed up the car and left,Winston cigarettes picking her up on the way."
Nearly 1,400 firefighters from many departments were on the lines, aided by aircraft.
Authorities reported 10 firefighters injured, including three who sheltered in a house during a firestorm. They were in good condition at a Los Angeles burn center but two faced surgery. Other injuries ranged from smoke inhalation to ankle sprains.
There were no specific numbers available on property losses. Fire officials would not clarify the governor's estimate, saying assessments were still under way.
The city's location on the state's central coast gives it some of the best weather in the world, with temperatures routinely topping out in the 70s, and views of the Pacific Ocean. Now with a population of about 90,000, it dates to the Spanish colonial era of California and a Roman Catholic mission established in the 1780s is a major tourist draw.
But the geography that gives it beauty and a serene atmosphere also brings danger.
"I'm from the East Coast and at this point I'd rather put up with this than the winter," said evacuee Jim Hatch, 40, an illustrator who returned home to pick up clothes Thursday and motored up Jesusita Road on a baby blue Piaggio scooter to see the fire.
State Assemblyman Pedro Nava fled Wednesday with his wife, two dogs and a cat. They tossed pictures, documents and a few days of clothes into a car and went to the home of a friend.
"I've learned how important preparation is in an emergency," he said. "The public has to be prepared to move, and in Santa Barbara they are prepared. When the police squad car came Wholesale cigarettesthrough with loudspeakers telling us to leave, there was no arguing. And they will all be back."
Morse, the executive director of the environmental group Global Preservation Projects, said he's not surprised by so many fires, blaming it on global warming.
"Temperatures are rising and humidity levels are dropping. It means more fires," he said.
Global warming can't be blamed for specific fires, but it creates conditions that foster larger and more frequent wildfires, scientists say.
"A warming climate encourages wildfires through a longer summer period that dries fuels, promoting easier ignition and faster spread," the Nobel Prize-winning Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change wrote in 2007.
Hatch, the scooter-riding illustrator, said his wife grew up in Santa Barbara.
"Her family thinks this is normal," he said. "But after livingcheap cigarettes here for 20 years I think the fires are getting worse."
Elsewhere, a southern New Mexico wildfire destroyed three homes and damaged a fourth near the small mountain community of Timberon. It also burned five outbuildings, such as sheds and garages, and 10 vehicles, fire information officer Darlene Hart said. Twenty homes were evacuated.
In southeastern Arizona, winds cooperated Thursday in holding down a wildfire that had destroyed three homes and critically injured a man, officials said. That blaze was 30 percent contained.

CANBERRA, May 4 (Reuters) - Australia is set to delay its carbon trading plan by 12 months, pushing the start out to July 2011, and to announce tougher greenhouse gas reduction targets in an effort to win political backing for the most sweeping trade scheme outside Europe, media reports said on Monday.* The decision gives the government more flexibility in global negotiations at the Copenhagen climate summit later this year, where nations will try to hammer out a replacement for the Kyoto jordan basketball shoes 3.5Protocol, which expires in 2012. South Korea Agrees to a Call for Talks From North Korea
SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — South Korea on Sunday accepted North Korea’s proposal for talks on a troubled joint industrial complex, setting up the first official dialogue between the countries in a year amid tensions over the North’s recent rocket launching.
A Unification Ministry spokeswoman said officials of the two nations would meet Tuesday in the border town of Kaesong to discuss the factory complex. South Korea said SaturdayUGG Classic Cardy that the North had made the surprise call for a meeting.
The industrial zone on the northern side of the border is the last major joint project between the nations and an important source of foreign currency for the impoverished North’s regime.

The North has restricted access to the industrial complex by tightening border controls, raising concerns among participating South Korean companies about the project’s viability.

North Korea has expelled international monitors and vowed to quit six-nation disarmament talks and restart its nuclear program to protest the United Nations Security Council’s condemnation of the April 5 launching.
North Korea insists it sent a satellite into space, but regional powers and the United States said that nothing reached orbit and that the launching was a test of long-range missile technology.
Sunday’s announcement came a day after North Korea’s military warned South Korea to stay out of a United States-led security initiative aimed at halting the spread of weapons of mass destruction.

Petraeus Warns About Militants’ Threat to Pakistan
WASHINGTON — Gen. David H. Petraeus, the top American commander for Iraq and Afghanistan, warned a Senate panel on Wednesday
that militant extremists in Pakistan “could literally take down their state” if left unchallenged, as he and two other top
officials presented a grim picture of growing dangers in the region.
Michele A. Flournoy, a top Defense Department official, told the panel that there would be “higher human costs” for the
United States in Afghanistan this year, while the chief of the military’s Special Operations commandos, Adm. Eric T. Olson,
called the situation in Afghanistan and Pakistan Jordan 23

The trio testified jointly before occasionally skeptical members of the Senate Armed Services Committee, who had their first

within its borders.
Under sharp questioning from Senator John McCain, Republican of Arizona, Ms. Flournoy, the under secretary of defense for
policy, acknowledged the administration’s concerns about a wing of the ISI, which American intelligence officials say is
providing money and military assistance to the Taliban across the border in Afghanistan.
“I think ISI is a — or parts of ISI — are certainly a problem to be dealt with,” Ms. Flournoy said.
Mr. McCain, an early proponent of the buildup of American forces in Iraq, also questioned whether the United States now had

have used the phrase incrementalism” to describe what she called a “very strong commitment” of American troops that are to
increase to 68,000 from 38,000 by the end of this year.
Senators on the panel expressed some impatience with the Obama administration’s failure so far to articulate benchmarks for
judging progress in Afghanistan and Pakistan, although Ms. Flournoy promised that they would be ready soon.

the commander in Iraq.
Ms. Flournoy responded that “a key point of defining success is when both the Afghans and the Pakistanis have both the

"My impression is that the number of people who believe that issue is the difference between peace in the Middle East and war

Feb. 17 (Bloomberg) -- Liberty Media Corp. may say as soon as today that it will provide hundreds of millions of dollars to
Sirius XM Radio Inc. and help the pay-radio company avert bankruptcy, a person familiar with the matter said.

equipment company. Either Ergen or Malone, who control the two largest U.S. satellite-television companies, would be able to
use New York-based Sirius XM to integrate TV and radio services.
Patrick Reilly, a spokesman for Sirius XM, declined to comment. Liberty Media spokeswoman Courtnee Ulrich didn’t return a
phone call and an e-mail seeking comment.
Under the deal being negotiated, Malone may pay SiriusUGG Sandra XM $265
million in return for board seats and a minority stake in the company, the New York Times reported yesterday, citing people
familiar with the talks. Malone may then pay another $200 million to Sirius XM later this year, the newspaper said.

"Of course!" he exclaimed, when asked if he had expected the result - and then burst into giggles, suggesting the complete opposite.
The Kadima crowd booed as Mr Netanyahu was shown on screens addressing his supporters in a draughty hangar across town.
"With God's help, I will lead the next government," he announced on the basis of the dominance of right-wing parties in the results, as his audience cheered.
'Confusing and disappointing'
But emotions were mixed among the Likud supporters, at a gathering that was subdued from the beginning as rumours spread that Kadima had performed better than predicted.
Party activists were outnumbered by journalists. There were no Likud flags, few party T-shirts and little music.
As the first exit polls came through, party activist Rami - who gave only his first name - took a deep breath, exchanged glances with his friend Sali, then stared glumly back at the Shox Dendarascreen as the bar graphs flashed up, 30 seats for Kadima, 28 for Likud.
"It's very confusing, and very disappointing," he said.
As television pictures of Kadima jubilation were projected overhead, a small mob of young men surged around Mr Netanyahu, shouting "Bibi, bibi, bibi - we don't trust anyone but Bibi".
But many of the predominantly male supporters stood stony faced, not bothering to jostle with the TV cameras for a glimpse of their leader.
"I'm very, very, very, very unhappy," said chef Gil Afredo, 34, his face a picture of his disappointment. "I don't know what Bibi's mistake was."
But bank employee Alon Hadad, 33, still seemed genuinely excited.
"I feel very good," he said. "I think the right wing won Nike Women Air Force 1 Low Mid Highthe election," Tzipi Livni can't form a coalition.
"We must demonstrate that we are happy," he added, jumping up and down.
'Very grey'
Others were more cautious in their optimism. But they believed too that even if Ms Livni had won slightly more seats, Mr Netanyahu would end up prime minister as he was better placed to form a government.
"It's very grey," said party activist Raphael Cohen by phone from the Likud gathering, three hours later, as the partial results began to confirm the exit polls:
"People don't know whether to be happy or sad - we think the gap is small. I definitely believe there is still hope."
Finally, after a fairly significant delay - was she getting cold feet about declaring victory? - Ms Livni strode onto the stage to greet her supporters.
She was met with rapturous applause, a sea of Israeli flags, and had to wait for chants of "Kadima, Kadima" and "Tzipi Livni, Tzipi Livni" to subside before she could continue with herShox FSM speech.
Composed and confident, she delivered a clear message - the Israeli people had chosen Kadima, she would be the leader of a unity government, she would forge ahead with a new type of politics.
When it was over, as the hall emptied, Alon Van Dam, 26, one of Likud's paid campaigners said he was "elated".
Really, given the uncertainties? "Well,UGG Classic Tall my first reaction is to be elated, but I have to follow with cautious optimism," came the response. "It will be a process, forming the government."
And so the flags were furled, the taxis called and supporters spilled out into the blustery street.
They know they face a global economic crisis, Israel's persistent, unsolved security issues and - despite their celebrations - a conflict between two would-be prime ministers.

Snow Britain: Grit crisis 'putting lives at risk'
A national shortage of grit is putting lives at risk on Britain's snow covered roads, the country' biggest motoring
organisation warned yesterday.
The AA said many roads were turning into "death traps" and warned that the country faced a dangerous "road safety crisis".
With weather forecasters predicting another five days of freezing temperatures and snow, the AA called on the Government to
step in and ask European countries to Shox Respondprovide emergency
supplies of salt.
Around 40,000 tonnes are already on the way from Spain. Critics said the grit shortage had proved Britain was woefully
unprepared for the extended cold snap.
The Daily Telegraph disclosed two days ago that some councils would run out of salt by the weekend.
Several have now either run out or have such low stock levels that very few roads are being gritted. In some areas less than
20 per cent of roads have been treated.
The AA said councils were "running on empty" with the worst affected areas in Wiltshire, Hertfordshire, Surrey, Derbyshire
and parts of Wales. It said some cities including St Albans, Herts were "unable to cope".
Some councils have used almost their entire winterAir Force 25 supply of
salt, amounting to thousands of tonnes, in less than a week and they are now down to their last 100 tonnes.
At least eight are prioritising A roads and abandoning other routes to freeze over and become impassable. Wiltshire is having
to "water down" its remaining salt with sand.
AA President, Edmund King said last night: "Some of the councils only have 100 tonnes left and that's nothing, it's a drop in
the ocean. Many, many local roads are going untreated and drivers don't know which are or aren't until they start skidding
all over the place. There are also hundreds of miles of frozen pavements.
"The Government should step in. If we can't up the production of salt, and it appears we are at full stretch, then you have
to look at supplies from elsewhere like Holland.
"In St Albans cars couldn't get up the main road. Surely in this day and age we can keep the main roads in our main cities
running."
Mr King blamed councils for consistently cutting back on winter maintenance in recent years and said they had been "caught
out" by the cold snap.
RAC motoring strategist Adrian Tink said: "With UK motorists giving the Government £45 billion a year in taxes, they will
feel pretty annoyed that there isn't enough cash to keep UGG Sunburst

Mark Wallace, of the TaxPayers' Alliance, said: "It defies belief that the Government was so badly prepared for the snowy
conditions. It's disgraceful."
Warwickshire is rationing gritting, while in Wiltshire only main routes are being gritted. Gloucestershire halved its salting
operation to preserve stocks.
Tory local government spokesman Caroline Spelman said: "Labour ministers need to be open about the true extent of the grit
crisis and explain why there are insufficient supplies."
Cheshire-based Salt Union, which operates Britain's biggest rock salt mine and provides 90 per cent of the salt used on the
roads, said it could not meet demand.
The company said it had looked into importing salt from Germany but there was also high demand for salt there and it would
take time to ship it to the UK by boat.
Spokeswoman Katie Moffat, said: "We are mining at maximum capacity, we are extracting 30,000 tons a week and that is going
out as soon as we extract it. Because of the prolonged bad Shox Ride 2
IIweather our stores are empty."
DA Baldwin and Son in Wolverhampton, the biggest supplier in the West Midlands, completely ran out of supplies.
But a British Salt depot in Middlewich, Cheshire, had 100,000 tonnes of low-grade salt which had accumulated over the 15
years as a by-product from manufacturing table salt. Some 200 lorries queued to collect it.
Derek Turner, from the Highways Agency which is responsible for motorways and A roads, admitted: "The salt supplies are being
gradually used up. We have about three or four days left."
Several councils accused the Highways Agency of hijacking its salt supplies. A spokesman for Wiltshire, which has used 7,000
tonnes and has only 1,000 tonnes left, said: "All new salt supplies are currently being directed to national priorities."

Force 1 Mid over the crisis. Transport Secretary Geoff Hoon said: "We are trying to encourage the movement of salt from
areas that have enough, I won't say plenty, to those areas that are having some difficulty."

countries. This a real opportunity for the Government to show leadership of the country and to lead us all in the quest for
more salt."

And now, the Magic's Mystery Tour.
Lakerdom is gearing Shox Rollinup for Monday's game here with Cleveland, the latest in a series of, quote, possible Finals previews, unquote, but don't look now, there's one tonight too.
With less fanfare, or none, Nike Air Force 1 Midthe Lakers are about to play the NBA's hottest team, which doesn't happen to have LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce or Ray Allen.
This team isn't part of the old Lakers-Celtics rivalry or the new Celtics-Cavaliers rivalry, or any rivalry outside Florida.
The last time it got past the second round of the playoffs, Shaquille O'Neal played there. It was soShox Respond long ago, Shaq hadn't even heard of Kobe, although he was taking an increasingly dimmer view of Penny Hardaway.
Aw, you guessed it.
It's the Orlando Magic, which isn't mentioned in the same breath with the Lakers, Celtics and Cavaliers, but is right there with them at 31-8, which is even more impressive when you consider the Magic started 0-2.
This tour has been Magical, all right. After starting the trip with a win in San Antonio, the Magic dropped an NBA-record 23 three-pointers on the Kings in a 139-107 rout.
Even those pesky pundits have noticed.Shox Ride 2 II ESPN's Jeff Van Gundy said he was revising his earlier view that the Magic wasn't a serious contender.
Van Gundy is the brother of Orlando Coach Stan Van Gundy, so this is what you'd call a tough audience.
"What most of the people who are coaches or have been coaches in the league say, the record is what counts," said Stan at his team's practice Thursday in Hawthorne.
"That's what you're judged by. We could talk about subjective stuff and matchups and everything else, butNike Men Air Force 1 High 31-8 is 31-8.
"Cut it however you want, it's 31-8. Unlike some teams, we haven't played an inordinate number of home games. We haven't played five more games at home. As a matter of fact, by the end of the trip, we'll have played three more away.

He proposed $300 billion in tax relief in a bill that could reach $775 billion, and he resurrected the jobs-credit proposal from the campaign trail as one of his main provisions.
Republicans reacted favorably to the higher-than-expected ratio of tax breaks to spending for road projects, alternative energy production, health-care technology and unemployment benefits. But they offered mixed reviews of his specific tax proposals and floated their own, including cuts in corporate and capital gains taxes.
Stronger opposition came from Democrats, who dismissed the $3,000 credit to employers for every job created or saved as ripe for abuse and difficult to administer. When no champion for the proposal came forward, the president-elect decided to sideline the incentive.
"We've always said we're open to other ideas. This was never set in stone," said a senior Obama adviser of the decision.
Congressional leaders are aiming to deliver a stimulus bill to Obama's desk in the White House by mid-February, but as the process unfolds, the legislation appears to be growing in size and complexity.
The stimulus and a separate financial rescue package, which is also meeting with objections from lawmakers (story, Page A1), are aimed at preventing the economy from sliding further. But Congress has expressed reluctance to rush through such expensive bills without careful consideration of the details.
Even before assuming office, Obama is taking an unusually direct role in legislative efforts to move both bills forward, personally phoning lawmakers and dispatching senior aides to Capitol Hill on a near-daily basis. The Blazers have gone 2-2 while their All-Star has beenShox Basketball injured.
Roy, averaging 23 points a game, was cleared for practice after he was checked out by team doctors on Wednesday night. But he was not given the green light to play in Portland's 84-83 victory over the Detroit Pistons as a precaution.
Roy hasn't played since Dec. 27 against Toronto.
His life certainly hasn't been uneventful during his rehabilitation. Roy and his fiancee Tiana Bardwell had their second child, Mariah Leilani Roy, on Monday.

That's a concern for the Blazers, because Miles could count against the team's salary cap if he plays in a total of 10 NBA games.
Miles had microfracture surgery on his right knee in November 2006, and did not play again for the Blazers, who waived him at the end of last season.
Right now, Portland is off the hookShox 2:40 for the final $18 million of Miles' deal because an independent doctor said his knee injury was career ending.
However, if he plays in 10 games, his salary counts again for Portland.
Miles also appeared in six preseason games with the Boston Celtics. According to a Yahoo Sports report, those games count toward Miles' 10-game total. That means Miles has to appear in just two more games to go back on Portland's books.
A spokesman for the NBA confirmed to The Associated Press on Thursday that the Boston games do count as part of Miles' total.
ANGRY IN-LAW:@ The Minneapolis Star Tribune added detail to reports about Joel Przybilla's grandmother writing NBA Commissioner David Stern to protest a fine levied on the Blazers' 7-foot-1 center.
Turns out, it's the grandmother of Przybilla's wife who is the feisty 80-plus basketball fan.
Przybilla was fined $7,500 for a clash with New Orleans center Tyson Chandler during a game last Friday. Chandler was ejected from the game and had to serve a one-game suspension.
Stella Stawski, 83, of Milwaukee told the newspaper she intended to write Stern, but admits it probably wouldn't help her grandson-in-law's cause.
"The altercation started with the other young man," Stawski said. "The first punch was done to Joel, not the other way around. ... That was a totally flagrant foul."
RUDY'S PITCH:@ Rudy Fernandez sings and even plays a little guitar -- badly -- as part of his bid to be included in the NBA's slam dunk contest during All-Star festivities.
Fernandez is one of three players -- along with Joe Alexander and Russell Westbrook -- vying for the chance to go up against Dwight Howard (the defending champion), Rudy Gay and NateShox Warrior Robinson.

Jan. 5 (Bloomberg) -- The sons of Bernard Madoff, who is accused of orchestrating a massive Ponzi scheme, alerted prosecutors last week that their father mailed them jewelry, watches and other items in violation of an asset freeze, his lawyer said.
U.S. prosecutors today asked a federal judge to revoke Madoff’s bail because he violated the freeze. U.S. MagistrateShox 45 Judge Ronald Ellis asked for legal briefs by Jan. 7 from the government and from Madoff, who remains free in his Manhattan apartment on a $10 million bond.
Madoff mailed five packages of items, including “some very valuable jewelry,” after his assets were frozen by a judge in a related civil lawsuit, said Assistant U.S. Attorney Marc Litt in court today. Defense lawyer Ira Sorkin said the objects, which included pens and $25 cuff links, were heirlooms innocently sent to Madoff’s children and brother, Peter.
“We believe the children brought it to the attention of the government,” Sorkin said in an interview after court. Madoff, 70, was accused last month of directing a $50 billion Ponzi scheme out of his New York investment firm after his sons reported him to prosecutors.
Madoff’s sons turned him in on Dec. 10 after he confessed to them, their attorney, Martin Flumenbaum, previously said. Madoff, who was arrested by Federal Bureau of Investigation agents the following day, is under house arrest and subject to electronic surveillance.
‘Changed Circumstance’
Litt said in court today that the transfer of valuables is a “changed circumstance” that warranted the revocation of bail. Litt said one of the jewelry items may be worth as much as $1 million.
“In the face of a direct and clear order of a court, he violated the order,” Litt said.
Sorkin said in an interview and in court that he learned from Madoff and his wife, Ruth, on Dec. 30 of their transfer of assets and instructed his clients to Shox 45retrieve the items, which they’re doing. The government now possesses some of the assets, he said. Sorkin said he also told the government about some of the transfers. The transferred items included a $200 pair of mittens given to Madoff by his granddaughter, he said.
Separately, prosecutors were told of the transfers last week by Madoff’s children and by a New York City couple to whom Madoff sent some objects, Sorkin said. The couple, who haven’t been identified, are now vacationing in Florida, he said.
Mark Madoff, 42, ran Madoff’s proprietary trading business and Andrew Madoff, 40, was a director of that unit. Flumenbaum didn’t return a call seeking comment today. The sons haven’t been charged with wrongdoing.
Victims’ Losses
As Bernard Madoff fought today to stay out of jail, his alleged victims continued to detail their losses with him and regulators sought to identify assets they could use to repay customers.
Bard College’s president disclosed today that the liberal- arts school in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York, lost about $3 million in investments related to Madoff. Harley International Ltd., a hedge fund run by Cayman Islands-based Euro-Dutch Management Ltd., invested all of its assets with Madoff, a person familiar with the matter said. The fund managed $2.76 billion as of Oct. 31.
Last week, Rosenman Family LLC, managed by Martin Rosenman, president of Bronx-based Stuyvesant Fuel Service Corp., sued Irving Picard, the trustee appointed to supervise the unwinding of Madoff’s firm, seeking return of a $10 million investment.
Liquid Assets
Picard has identified $830 million in liquid assets in Madoff’s defunct brokerage firm, Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC, according to the Securities Investor Protection Corp. The assets may be subject to recovery by Madoff’s customers, SIPC Chief Executive Officer Stephen Harbeck told a congressional committee today in prepared testimony.
Picard sent 8,000 claim forms on Jan. 2 to people who appeared to have invested with Madoff, and heShox 45 published a notice telling them how to recover lost money. The forms were sent to people “who appear to have been customers” of Madoff’s firm “with open accounts within the past 12 months,” according to a statement. Madoff’s advisory business was estimated to have had more than 4,000 customers, people familiar with the matter said last month.
At today’s hearing, Litt said the mailing of the valuables by Bernard and Ruth Madoff, which Sorkin said began Dec. 24, violated an agreement to freeze Madoff’s assets as part of a Securities and Exchange Commission lawsuit.
Flight Risk
Litt said that the dispersal of the valuables was a risk to the public that justified imprisonment before trial. He also said that the likelihood that Madoff would eventually be imprisoned increased the risk of him fleeing prosecution.
“The case against the defendant is strong, and it’s getting stronger,” the prosecutor said, making it more likely Madoff will flee. The transfer was an “obstruction of justice.”
“The bail conditions that were originally set by this court haven’t been violated one iota,” Sorkin responded in court, adding that he learned of the government revocation bid today.
Janice Oh, a spokeswoman for Interim Manhattan U.S. Attorney Lev Dassin, declined to comment on how prosecutors first learned of the asset transfers.
Some of the transferred items belonged to Bernard Madoff and some to Ruth Madoff. On Dec. 26, Ruth Madoff, who is also represented by Sorkin’s firm, agreed with the government not to dispose of her assets, Litt said. She hasn’t been charged with a crime.
Ellis asked for legal briefs on whether the dissipation of assets constitutes a risk of harm to the community that would warrant a change in Madoff’s bail status.
Peter Madoff’s lawyer, John Wing, didn’t immediately return a call seeking comment.

While the Jets decided to fire ManginiShox TW Monday after three seasons, team owner Woody Johnson made a plea to have 39-year-old quarterback Brett Favre return next season despite an error-laden, uneven performance down the stretch that was as indicative of the Jets' collapse as anything else.
"I hope so," Johnson said Monday when asked if he expected Favre back for a second season with the Jets.
When it was pointed out how Favre struggled down the stretch -- the future Hall of Famer threw just two touchdowns and was intercepted nine times during the Jets' 1-4 finish -- Johnson quickly dismissed it.
"I think Brett Favre was a huge positive net for this franchise," he said.
Perhaps it's all the attention and Shox Saya+glamour that Favre has brought to the organization, not to mention the number of jerseys he has sold.
Some of Favre's teammates, however, were less enthused about the idea of the quarterback coming back, and several players privately pointed to Favre -- and his league-high 22 interceptions -- as the reason for the team's demise and Mangini's firing.
"All the money they spent on bringing in players, the new stadium and the quarterback," said one player when asked why he thinks Mangini was fired.
Said another player: "It's the quarterback throwing the ball all over the place. And he didn't suffer any repercussions. He kept doing it. People said Eric called him out in meetings; I didn't see it. Eric treated him like he was Brett Favre. A lot of guys didn't like it."
Favre, who has two years left on his Shox Arraw+contract at $13 million and $14 million respectively, was not seen at the Jets' training facility in

It might not have been revenge, but for the Lakers and their adoring
and fanatic fans, it was sweet nonetheless.
And for Pau Gasol, who withered during the NBA Finals against Boston
and who was withering again in the first half against the Celtics this
afternoon, it was even sweeter.
Gasol's strong play in the fourth quarter pushed the Lakers to a 92-83

streak Thursday at Staples Center.
Gasol had nine of his 20 points in the fourth quarter, including seven
in the final three minutes, doing so with drive and determination. He
also blocked two shots late in the game.
The Celtics defeated the Lakers last spring in the NBA Finals. They
dropped a 39-point loss on the Lakers Shox Disobeyin Game 6 in Boston, the second
-most lopsided game in a game-clinching contest in Finals history.
The Lakers blew a 24-point lead in Game 4 at home, allowing the
Celtics to take a commanding 3-1 lead in the series.
This time, the Lakers built a 10-point lead on Christmas Day and held
on, thanks to Gasol.
His basket with 2:48 left broke a tie and gave the Lakers an 83-81

NPR to cut 7 percent of workers
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. radio network National Public Radio will cut 7 percent of its workers and eliminate two shows because of budget shortfalls, the network said on Wednesday.
Facing a $23 million shortfall, NPR will eliminate the shows "Day to Day" and "News & Notes" in March because they failed to attract "sufficient levels of audience or national underwriting necessary to sustain continued production under these tough financial circumstances," Dennis Haarsager, NPR's CEO and interim president, Air Jordan 13 wrote in an internal memo.
Many of the job cuts will come from those two programs.
"All our revenue sources are under pressure," wrote Haarsager in the memo. "All industries, including the financial, automotive, and media industries, historically our biggest underwriters, are cutting back significantly."
NPR, which has a staff of 889, said it will cut 85 jobs, Air Jordan 13including 21 unfilled positions.
"Travel and discretionary expenses have been cut across the organization," NPR said in a statement.

Jupiter and Venus begin December in conjunction at dusk in the southwestern sky. If the sky remains clear, the Jupiter-Venus conjunction, officially occurring tomorrow night, will be spectacular. Venus is the brighter of the two planets, and it remains high in the southwest throughout December, while the gaseous Jupiter descends the western horizon all month. Venus, ever effervescent, is visible atrunescape powerleveling negative fourth magnitude (ultra bright), and it is easily mistaken for a distant jetliner approaching Dulles International Airport with its landing lights on. Jupiter at negative second magnitude is bright enough to enjoy from the urban light-polluted sky. At month's end, Venus sets after 8 p.m., and Jupiter sets before 6 p.m. Tonight, notice that the sliver of a young moon is below Jupiter and Venus, while tomorrow night the crescent can be seen above the planetary duo. WASHINGTON, Nov 26 (Reuters) - Several makers of infant formula sold in the United States defended their products on
Wednesday, saying tests had not found the kidney-damaging chemical melamine in their products.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said on Tuesday it had found trace amounts of the industrial chemical in one sample of
formula. Although the FDA said the low level posed no risk,Air Jordan 13
reports of the finding caused alarm among parents.
"The FDA has confirmed with Mead Johnson that melamine was not found in any of our products they tested," said Pete
Paradossi, spokesman for the Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMY.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) unit, which markets several
types of Enfamil-branded formula.
Other companies had no comment on the FDA's findings but said their mabinogi money own
tests did not detect the chemical.
Hain Celestial Group Inc (HAIN.O: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) said its tests found no melamine or a related by-
product, cyanuric acid, in its Earth's Best Organic formula.
Privately held PBM Nutritionals, which makes store-brand formula, said the FDA had not told the company of any finding of
melamine in its formula products. "Our tests have not detected melamine," PBM spokesman Joe Shields said.

FDA spokeswoman Judy Leon said on Tuesday the melamine finding in one sample of U.S. formula was not from direct

TORONTO — As governments in Canada and the United States consider rescue packages for the struggling auto industry, Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty warned Saturday that giving taxpayers' money to support the sector could drive the province's deficit into dangerous territory.
Ontario already had to revise its budget forecasts warhammer power levelingfor this year to eliminate an expected surplus and instead post a $500-million deficit.
With mayors from 22 Ontario communities pressing the province to help save the industry, auto dealers begging for help and the auto makers looking for cash, Mr. Jordan 13McGuinty said the demands on his government are only increasing as the economic times get worse.
“The auto sector demand alone could cause our deficit to dramatically balloon,” Mr. McGuinty said after a speech to a Liberal policy conference.
“When it comes to the deficit, some people say ‘Well, what difference does it make?' Well, it makes a big difference. If we get caught with a major structural deficit, it becomes difficult if not impossible to get out of it.”

Computer virus causes havoc at London hospitals

A spokesperson for the NHS trust that covers all three of the affected hospitals said that operating theatres and outpatients departments had "remained operational" throughout the incident.
The cause of the computer failure is thought to be the Mytob virus, which affects Windows operating systems and is spread by email. The rogue emails contain an attachment, known as an executable file, that once opened, will infect the runescape power levelingcomputer network.

Ex-Taiwan president in hospital
